Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 2026 · applies to the “Precept” app (iOS/iPadOS) and the website precept.tscholene.com

In short

Precept does not collect personal data. The app has no user account, no tracking, no analytics and no server of its own. Everything you enter in Precept stays on your device: questions, rules, history, settings. Purchases go exclusively through Apple. This website sets no cookies and loads no third-party services.

1. The app

What the app stores

Precept stores your rule sets, your decision questions with their result (history), your context flags (e.g. “tired”), the country chosen for the help screen, the appearance setting and a daily counter for free usage. This data lives exclusively in a file in the app's documents folder on your device. It is not transmitted to us or to third parties. Nothing is sent to a server, because there is none.

If you have iCloud Backup or a local backup enabled in iOS Settings, Apple includes this file in your backup. Apple is responsible for that; we have no access to it.

Deleting

In the app's settings, “Reset All Data” deletes the history and the rules. Deleting the app removes all data from the device. You do not need to file a request with us, because we hold no data about you.

Safety feature

Precept checks your input on the device for signs of self-harm in order to show emergency and crisis lines in that case. This check happens entirely on the device; the text never leaves it. The numbers and links shown come from a list bundled with the app. If you tap “Call”, “Text” or “Chat”, iOS hands the action to the Phone, Messages or browser app. Only then does anything leave your device, and only to the service you chose.

Purchases (Precept Pro)

The “Precept Pro” subscription is purchased and billed through Apple's App Store (StoreKit). We receive neither your name nor your payment details from Apple, only anonymous sales statistics. The app checks your subscription status through Apple's on-device interface and remembers the result locally. Apple is responsible for processing in the App Store: Apple Privacy Policy.

Permissions

Precept requests no system permissions (no location, no contacts, no photos, no notifications). The country for the help screen is suggested from your device's region setting and can be changed in the app.

2. This website

No cookies, no analytics

This website sets no cookies, uses no analytics or tracking services and loads no resources from third parties. Fonts, images and stylesheets are served from our own server. There is no contact form.

Server logs

When you access this website, the hosting provider's web server stores technically necessary data in log files: IP address, time of access, requested file, amount of data transferred, browser type and operating system. This data is required to operate the website and to fend off attacks. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR, our legitimate interest in secure operation. The data is not merged with other data; the logs are deleted after a short period.

Links to third parties

The website links to the App Store and to Apple's legal texts. As soon as you follow such a link, the privacy policy of the respective provider applies.

3. Contact by email

If you write to us, we process your message and your address solely to reply. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(b) or (f) GDPR. We delete the correspondence as soon as it is no longer needed and no statutory retention obligations apply.

4. Your rights

You have the rights to access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability and objection. Since we store no data about you, these rights will usually come to nothing in practice. But do get in touch any time at support@tscholene.com. You may also lodge a complaint with the Austrian data protection authority (dsb.gv.at).

5. Controller

The controller's contact details are in the Imprint.

6. Changes

If anything about the app changes in a way that affects this policy, we update it here and state the date at the top.
